If you have a hard time getting up in the morning, you may want to try some Ayurvedic suggestions on morning rituals. These actions can help develop a body that’s resistant to disease, balanced, and healthy.

 

Start the Day in Alignment

Ayurveda calls for getting a jump-start on the day by focusing on morning rituals that work to align the body with nature’s rhythms, balance the doshas, and also foster self-esteem alongside self-discipline. Adopting just one or more of the following practices for a month can radically alter your experience of the day.

Rise Before the Sun

Get outside and breathe the special kind of air that’s only available around this time of the day. It’s also the ideal time to do some yoga and meditation. Vata energy is strongest just before sunrise. Don’t know when sunrise is in your location? Here’s a simple app that can help.  And here’s one for your iPhone.

 

Wake Up Your Insides

Drinking water first thing in the morning will wake up your insides, just as walking or yoga wakes up your outsides. Add some lemon or lime to your water for an extra healthy boost. Eating a light, healthy breakfast is vital to enjoying the rest of the day – it’s important to not skip this!

 

Wash Your Face and Your Body

Most people will splash some cool water on their face after waking up. Try splashing seven times, one for each chakra, and see if you notice a difference. Early morning is also an ideal time for a bath – the water temperature should be based on your body type for maximum effect. Pitta-types should opt for a cool bath, while lukewarm water for Vata-types is best. Kapha body types should enjoy a warm bath.

Care for Your Mouth

More than simply brushing your teeth, take the time to go through a complete mouth-cleaning ritual. Use a tongue-scraper to remove that fuzzy gunk. Try tapping your teeth to wake up the energy in your mouth. Then brush your teeth, ideally with a natural-bristle toothbrush.
